Armenian Women Artists Takes Over Our Instagram!
Through our collaboration, we hope that you will gain new insights on the incredible pioneers of the visual arts. @armenian_women_artists is a blog and initiative, founded by Cassandra Tavukciyan, aimed at researching and promoting Armenian women artists from around the world to elevate their work and bolster greater appreciation for their achievements and contributions.
Armenian Women Artists:
The intent of Armenian Women Artists is to research and promote the works and lives of Armenian women artists, both in Armenia and its diasporic communities. By highlighting biographical and contextual information, along with the sharing of artworks, AWA aims to address the lacunae of women in the representation and understanding of Armenian art history and to emphasize the vital role women have played in the development and modernization of society
Cassandra Tavukciyan has always had an interest in fine art and Armenian history. Growing up in Vancouver, Canada, Cassandra completed a BFA in photography and later attended Ryerson University in Toronto where she earned an MA in film and photography preservation and collections management. During her studies, she undertook a residency at the New York Public Library where she wrote her dissertation on Armenian photographic studios in the late Ottoman Empire. Cassandra currently works at the Multicultural History Society of Ontario, where she helps preserve and make accessible archival materials that document immigrant and ethnic experiences in Ontario.
